Foster Grandparents volunteer with children in schools, head starts, and nonprofit child care centers across Maine.
For their volunteer hours, Foster Grandparents receive a nontaxable stipend, mileage, and meals. This stipend does not affect any other benefits the volunteer may receive like Social Security, food stamps, or subsidized housing. The stipend does not count as income for any purpose. Applicants must be 55 years of age and income eligible to receive the stipend.
Seniors all over Maine are helping children strengthen skills and reach their goals by giving of their time as a Foster Grandparent. If you are interested in finding out more, come to the local presentation held at the Bucksport Area Senior Citizens Center on June 16th at 10:30 am.
This event is a collaboration among Penquis, AmeriCorps Seniors, Bucksport Bay Healthy Communities, and the Bucksport Area Senior Citizens Center.
